MO STUFF

WOW!!!! I just rode the new 2017 Ducati 950 Multistrada. It was a brilliant move on Ducati's part to use the 1200 Multistrada Enduro Chassis for this new model. Very possibly the best sorted production motorcycle I have ever ridden. My test loop includes a twisty section with whoop-dee-doos spread through them. Only the BWM S1000XR in Dynamic Suspension mode felt as composed as this bike speeding through this section, no other bike comes close. This 950 is also stellar in its ability to seamlessly change direction while leaned over in challenging situations. I can easily see it owning the canyons .

What I like most about the smaller Multistrada is the light and precise steering. It will be a perfect bike to ride over the steep and twisty Sierra passes when they open in June. The light feel yet high speed stability is no doubt achieved through a masterful combination of using the 19" front wheel to allow some latitude with the geometry.

The engine is as smooth as a fresh jar of Skippy and strong throughout the range with none of the on - off switch feeling of some Ducatis and no dead spots. Being a fan of 1200cc bikes it is a major compliment to the 950 to say this may actually become my favorite bike to ride. It is after all essentially a liter performance version of the 1200cc cousin.

I also had the opportunity to experience it under emergency conditions when a car pulled out in front of me. Super-composed, it was very easy to steer to a safe exit under very hard braking. I love the bike and can't wait to get mine and break it in.

No real short-comings. Granted – I was only on it for about 45 minutes. If I had to nit-pick, I would want cruise control for the slab stints but there is an after-market solution to add cruise. If the 950 Multistrada is on your short list, just get it, you won't be disappointed.

Special shout out to Andy at Munroe Motors of San Francisco for insisting I take it out for a spin. Best bike of the year IMHO.
